The Syracuse Starks beat the Kansas Rainbeaus, 2-1. Syracuse pitcher and Norfolk, Virginia, native Adam Walker led the way. Walker, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. Syracuse is off to a hot start at 5-2.
Syracuse used the clutch hitting of Bill Gatacre to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Starks ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
