Toros Fall Short at Greenport, 5-4
|
Ballpark of Robbins was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Greenport Harbor Whales and Tijuana Toros.
The Tijuana Toros got a superb performance from pitcher Takakazu Ishihara. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Greenport. The Harbor Whales won the game, 5-4. Ishihara threw 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs. Dan Cortés earned the save, his 2nd.
Had Miguel Beci not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Beci hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Harbor Whales.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Tijuana manager Chet Delaney. "But we decided not to take it."
The win gives Greenport a season record of 16-15.
