Shockers Defeat Rhinos, 7-5
|
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Ricardo Cantú, the Redwood Rhinos lost to the Surprise Shockers, 7-5. Cantú went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Akihito Okubo, the winner, goes to 2-0. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts over 7 innings. The win puts the Shockers at 29-38, while the Rhinos drop to 18-49.
Surprise left fielder Bob Stewart contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 58th hit of the season and put the Shockers ahead, 7-4.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Surprise manager John Walls.
