Shockers Deal Warheads 6-2 Loss
|
Behind a fine performance from Xie-li Wa, the Surprise Shockers knocked off the Amarillo Warheads, 6-2. Wa was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Shockers. Akihito Okubo, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Warheads to 2 runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Justin Allen was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
Surprise used the clutch hitting of Ernesto Calderón to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Shockers the lead, 5-2. For the game, Calderón had 2 singles and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"We had a nice day," said Surprise skipper John Walls.
The 8th-place Shockers now have a win-loss record of 26-34.
