Warheads Get One-Run Win at Surprise
|
The Surprise Shockers got a sterling performance from pitcher Zhi-huan Qing, but the Amarillo Warheads still prevailed, 3-2. Qing came in in relief and pitched to 20 batters. Amarillo reliever Darrell Blaeck picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Artie Parker was saddled with the loss. Wijnand Boone was called on to finish, recording his 10th save.
The result might have been different for Amarillo, had it not been for Jack Andrews, the former first round draft pick . Andrews stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Amarillo up, 3-2. For the game, he had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"This was a tough loss," said Surprise manager John Walls. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
With the victory, the Warheads record now stands at 16-21.
