Hicksville got a first-rate effort from pitcher Ronald Gardner, who frustrated Beaumont hitters en route to a 1-0 Hounds triumph at The Target. Gardner, now 5-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 10, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Hicksville has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
The Crossbeaus had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hounds going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old third baseman Richard Oliver came to the plate. Oliver hit a solo home run on a 0-2 fastball from Beaumont hurler Christopher Parkin. It was Oliver's 19th home run of the year.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Beaumont manager Stephen Richards, "let me know."
