Phillips Leads Rocketeers to Win
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Seattle Rocketeers and Echo Park Lakers.
Mike Phillips led Seattle to a triumph over Echo Park. The final score was 7-3. The center fielder went 3 for 4, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He scored 3 runs and added 2 RBI. Todd Johnson earned the win to go to 2-2. He allowed 3 runs on 12 hits, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout in 6 innings of work.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Rocketeers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the first, when shortstop Cor van Capelleveen hit a 2-run single. The single came off Felipe López and made the score 3-0, Rocketeers. van Capelleveen was 1 for 4 with a hit by pitch, while adding 2 RBI.
Phillips attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Lakers, now 6-15, continue their sluggish start.
