Carlos Ruíz did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus from losing, 5-4, to the South Beach Blaze at Smokies Stadium. Ruíz went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. Juan Corona, now 5-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. Smoky Mountain has now lost 5 consecutive games.
Helping the South Beach cause was Gilberto Silva. In the top of the third, the 21-year old right fielder had a run-scoring ground out to make the score 5-3, Blaze.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Smoky Mountain manager Gilberto Chávez. "The effort was great."
