Matlacha got a decent performance from pitcher Silas Brown, but it wasn't enough to beat the Eugene Vandals. Eugene won the Fuller Park contest, 5-3. Brown threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Eugene, with the win, sits at 12-66.
Eugene third baseman David Grassley contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 6th hit of the season and put the Vandals ahead, 3-0.
"We're just going to try to build off this win," said Grassley.
