Yellows Paste 3-2 Loss on River Rats
|
In a low-scoring clash between Yucca Valley and Columbia, pitcher William Petersen was a difference-maker. The left-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 win. The winning pitcher was Petersen, now 10-2. He tossed 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. At 48-24, the Yellows have a slim two-game lead in the Silver A.
The River Rats had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Yellows going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old catcher Homer Green came to the plate. Green hit a solo home run on a 1-1 curveball from Columbia hurler Bob O'Slattery. It was Green's 9th home run of the year.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Green.
