The Grand Forks Caterpillars had to overcome a fine effort from Huntington pitcher Elijah Cox to grab a narrow 4-2 win at The Shell. Cox went 8.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. Mo Huang got credit for the save for Grand Forks. It was his 16th of the year. The 4th-place Caterpillars now have a win-loss record of 32-22.
Grand Forks used the clutch hitting of Chad Valdés to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Caterpillars ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Huntington manager Rodrige Margalha said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
