Lighthouse Trip Cattlemen, 4-3, in Extra Innings
|
Crowds lined up early in front of The Cattle Pen, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2052 United States Silver League season. On the mound was Shem Burkholder for the visiting Long Island Lighthouse and Chase Davis for the hometown Ft. Worth Cattlemen. In a spirited contest, the Lighthouse pulled out the win, defeating the Cattlemen by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Shem Burkholder. Long Island reliever Christopher Tracy picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jack Buyse was tagged with the loss. John Ellis nailed down his 1st save.
Long Island used a timely hit from Jesús Serrano to get the win. The first baseman delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the tenth inning to put the Lighthouse on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was huge.
Serrano attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
