Big Day for Saunders in 7-5 Bush Pilots Win
|
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Joe Saunders, the Alaskan Bush Pilots defeated the Idaho Falls Chukars, 7-5. Saunders went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Bush Pilots. Steve Crabtree got the win, improving to 5-4. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 3 hits and no runs, while striking out 7 and walking 3. With the win over Idaho Falls, the Bush Pilots improved to 31-26.
Alaskan used the timely hitting of Alex Hann to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bush Pilots on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In comments to the Alaskan Gazette, Saunders admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
