Commodores Go Down to Defeat, 5-1
|
The Mancelona Torch faced a tough opponent in Put-In-Bay pitcher Erwin Ponce, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Put-In-Bay Ballpark by a final score of 5-1. Ponce went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Ken Hickton was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Earning his 1st save of the year was Mark Garland.
The Torch got an important contribution from first baseman Gabriel Salinas, who in the top of the third hit a curveball into right for a solo home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Torch ahead, 2-0.
"We'll try to build on that win," Salinas told the Mancelona News.
At 17-25, the Torch find themselves in 10th place in the Menard's A.
