Mercer Island Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
|
Well, that's how to end a game in style.
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles faced a tough opponent in Athletic Club KC Academy pitcher Richie Lems, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Mercer Island Grounds by a final score of 9-5. Lems went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Mercer Island reliever Orlando Calderón was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Rick Drake.
Mercer Island won the game in the bottom of the 16th inning. With two outs and Rick Drake on the mound for Athletic Club KC Academy, second baseman Milo Hamilton hit a dramatic grand slam home run, bringing Screaming Eagles fans to their feet.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Mercer Island manager Ricardo Vargas.
The Screaming Eagles, now 62-38, have won 5 in a row.
