Chesapeake Wins, Merza belts 2 home runs
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of the 21-year old left fielder Armando Merza, the Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas stopped the Virginia Beach Whales, 6-1. Álex Landol, the winning pitcher, improved to 7-3. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The save went to Steve Morrow, his 1st this season.
Chesapeake took a 6-1 lead on Merza's 18th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Robert Joubert in the bottom of the eighth, propelled Chesapeake to the win.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Cangrejos Fantasmas manager Dave Everett, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
With the win, the Cangrejos Fantasmas sit at 45-33.
