The Athletic Club KC Academy got a stellar performance from pitcher Richie Lems, who handcuffed the Ft. Polk South offense en route to a win, 5-2, at KC Academy Field. Lems, now 5-3, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Nalle Sijne was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 20 save opportunities.
The game could have flipped with one out in the top of the seventh. But Richie Lems made what his manager later called "an A-plus pitch." With runners on 1st and 2nd and Ft. Polk South trailing 5-2, Lems threw a fastball to Norberto Álvarez and Álvarez struck out.
The 7th-place Athletic Club KC Academy have won 4 consecutive games.
