Virginia Beach Whales starter Dave Jeffries was in fine form. He led his team to victory over the Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas, 3-0. Shawn Walker recorded the save for Virginia Beach, his 11th of the season. Virginia Beach, now 32-25, holds down third place in the Premier AA.

Jeffries, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 3 in 8 innings and gave up no runs.

Jeffries, who is tied for 4th in the PAA in strikeouts with 71, moves to 7-3 on the year with 71 strikeouts.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Jeffries said.
