Screaming Eagles Top Whales, 6-2
|
The Screaming Eagles grabbed a win, 6-2, at Mercer Island Grounds, overcoming a fine effort from Virginia Beach pitcher Jeff Vázquez. Vázquez went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner in relief was Masafumi Yoshino. He is now 2-3. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. The second-place Screaming Eagles raised their record to 28-18.
Had Lance Slaymaker not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Slaymaker hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Screaming Eagles.
"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Slaymaker told the Mercer Island Times.
