Hops Lose Late, 4-2

The Squirrel Hill Pierogis defeated the Yakima Hops, 4-2, in USPL Double A action at Hops Park. Squirrel Hill pitcher Ramón Espinoza had a standout performance. Squirrel Hill pitcher Richard McCord got the win, upping his record to 2-2. William Newton got the loss. The Pierogis move to 18-26 with the win, while the Hops drop to 15-29.
Squirrel Hill got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Arnie McKnight. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pierogis ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it had a major impact on the outcome.
Yakima manager Benjamin Baars said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
