The Squirrel Hill Pierogis beat the Yakima Hops, 5-2. Squirrel Hill pitcher and San Bernardino, California, native Luis García led the way. García, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 6 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. Picking up the save was Jack Herer, his 4th.
Squirrel Hill used a well-timed hit by Aaron Ritter to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Pierogis ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Ritter told the Squirrel Hill Times.
Squirrel Hill has now won 3 straight, while the Hops have lost 3 in a row.
