The Virginia Beach Whales had to overcome a fine performance from Athletic Club KC Academy pitcher Richie Lems to grab a 3-2 win at KC Academy Field. Lems allowed 2 runs over 7.1 innings. Virginia Beach now sits in third place in the Premier AA at 21-15.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Mibre Chipley to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Whales on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It was terrific getting this win," Chipley said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
