The Squirrel Hill Pierogis had to overcome a fine performance from Yakima pitcher Nick Stewart to grab a 2-0 win at Field of the Rawhides. Stewart allowed 2 runs over 6.1 innings. The winning pitcher was Ramón Espinoza. He's now 3-1. He went 6 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits for the Pierogis. Tetsu Gato earned the save for Squirrel Hill, his 1st of the year.
The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the ninth inning. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Yakima trailing 2-0, Tetsu Gato needed to get a big out. On a 2-2 curveball, Dennis Dooley, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2046 draft, struck out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
The loss makes Yakima 4-15.
