Mockingbirds Deal Dirty Reds 7-6 Loss
|
The Mississippi Mockingbirds turned back the San Mateo Dirty Reds, 7-6, at Lang Park. Benno Luby, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2-5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Randy Smith earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record is now 2-5. Isaac Gunner recorded the save for Mississippi, his 28th of the season.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the tenth inning. With one out, Marços Mansilha hit a 1-1 fastball from Michael Donovan for a run-scoring single. It put Mississippi in front, 7-6.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Beau Carsten, the Mississippi skipper.
With the victory, the Mockingbirds record now stands at 48-42.
