Highlanders Need Extra Innings to Top Blues, 4-3
|
Starting pitcher Andy Johnson pitched well enough to help the Asheville Highlanders beat the Barton Springs Blues, 4-3. Asheville reliever Chong-yee Galván picked up the win, upping his record to 8-4. Gijsbert van den Hombergh shouldered the loss. Asheville leads the Silver AA by 2 games.
Asheville first baseman Evan Segar said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the sixth. He did more than that -- Segar hit a 2-run home run to stake Asheville to a 3-1 lead. His 13th home run of the season came off Barton Springs pitcher Lane Stewart.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Segar told the Asheville Gazette.
