Alfredo Ruíz had a good game, but he could not keep the Bethesda Atoms from falling, 5-3, to the Barton Springs Blues at Blues Field. The Bethesda designated hitter was 3-3 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 in the loss. Quinton Lee was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. José Vargas collected save number 1.
Tied up with the Atoms in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blues got a boost from third baseman Jimmy Dreux. With the bases loaded, Dreux saw a 1-1 cutter from Joey Martin and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Barton Springs on top, 3-1.
"Glad to get this win," said Dreux. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
Barton Springs now sits in second place in the Silver AA at 38-31.
