Asheville Highlanders starter David Guerra pitched his team past the St. Petersburg Thunder, 6-1. In 5.1 innings, Guerra surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. The win gives Asheville a season record of 35-26.
Joren van Schie dealt the Thunder a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and Asheville leading 1-0, van Schie, who is tied for 2nd in the SAA in doubles with 15, hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single.
