The Asheville Highlanders faced a tough opponent in Olympia pitcher Frank Randolf, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Asheville Park by a final score of 3-2. Randolf went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner in relief was Carlos Cruz. He is now 2-2. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 4 innings. The last-place Ogres have dropped 4 straight games.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Asheville designated hitter Orel Vodarsky, facing Rob Phillips, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Highlanders the 3-2 win.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Asheville manager Robby Long. "It's usually not just one thing."
