Expos Fell Generals, 5-1
|
Niagara Falls designated hitter Jay Bonis was a significant contributor in his team's 5-1 triumph over the Washington Generals. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Niagara Falls. Carroll Mason, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save. The defeat makes Washington 1-3.
The Generals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Expos going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old right fielder Arlen Russell came to the plate. Russell hit a 2-run double on a 0-2 sinker from Washington hurler Eduardo Soto. It was Russell's 2nd double of the year.
"It's not about individual awards," Russell told a Niagara Falls Herald reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
