Atoms Subdue Guinea Pigs, 5-3
|
Experimental Stadium was the site for USSL Double A action featuring the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs and Bethesda Atoms.
Gwinnett got a terrific game from shortstop Jesús Tavárez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Bethesda, 5-3. Tavárez was 4-4 with a double and 3 singles. Ming Wang, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings.
Bethesda used the bat of Zózimo Laurentino to capture the win. The catcher jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Atoms ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Laurentino told the Bethesda Observer.
The loss drops the Guinea Pigs to 8-7.
