Starting pitcher Salvador López pitched well enough to help the Minnesota Loons beat the Richland Rails, 6-5. Pete Jones got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. The last-place Rails have lost 9 consecutive games.
Had Thomas Inge not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Inge hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Loons.
"I found a nice groove out there," said López.
