Kingfishers Cut Down Dirty Reds, 5-4
|
The Pittsburgh Kingfishers weathered a fine game by San Mateo right fielder Sasha Mamchenko to upend the Dirty Reds, 5-4, at Pittsburgh Grounds. Mamchenko went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Elton Ray earned the save for Pittsburgh, his 14th of the year. At 30-39, Pittsburgh is in 9th place in the Premier League.
Had Sébastien Guillaume not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Guillaume hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Kingfishers.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," San Mateo manager David Dodds said following the tough loss.
