van der Goor Slugs Battery to 7-3 Win
|
The Charleston Battery topped the St. Louis Coeur by the score of 7-3, with the largest share of the credit going to third baseman Nando van der Goor. van der Goor went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 4 for the Battery. Charleston reliever Ronald McDonald picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Doug Santamarina took the loss. The Battery are now 50-37, while the Coeur fall to 48-39.
With Charleston leading 1-0 in the top of the second, van der Goor hit a fastball from Doug Santamarina for a 3-run home run. It was his 22nd home run of the season and put the Battery ahead, 4-0.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said van der Goor. "Just do my job."
