Elite Come Up Short at Kingston Township, 3-2
|
The Kingston Township Knights eked out a 3-2 win versus the Detroit Elite at Cloverdale Legion Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Vernon Álvarez. He was terrific. The save went to George Atwater, number 15 for him. The Knights go to 30-46 with the win.
The Knights got a big at-bat from shortstop Steve Miller. For the game, Miller was 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Kingston Township a 3-2 lead.
Detroit manager Dustin Hewitt said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
