Battery Win Thriller, 4-3
|
The Vancouver Grey Wolves got a superb performance from pitcher Juan Rayo, but the Charleston Battery still won the game, 4-3. Rayo threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Reliever James Tucker picked up the win. His record improves to 5-3. Earl Hicks took the loss. With the win, Charleston raised its record to 33-25.
Charleston won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and Earl Hicks on the mound for Vancouver, first baseman Rolf Pauw hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Battery fans to their feet.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Charleston manager Don Lookingbill.
