Grey Wolves Lose By a Run at Northern Virginia, 5-4
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Vancouver Grey Wolves and Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids get after it.
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Vancouver Grey Wolves, 5-4, at Atlantica today. Leading the charge for Northern Virginia was catcher Maema Njongmeta. He was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 4 RBI. Nick Cole got the win, improving to 1-2. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Claude Richardson earned the save, his 7th, for the Rainbow Mermaids.
Njongmeta had a timely hit for Northern Virginia in the bottom of the sixth. With Vancouver trailing 3-2, he turned a 1-1 fastball into a bases-clearing double. It was his 2nd double of the season, making it 5-3, Northern Virginia.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Njongmeta told the Northern Virginia Gazette.
At 17-20, the Rainbow Mermaids claim 8th place in the Third League.
