Javelina Hang 4-2 Loss on Miners
|
The Marquette Miners went down to defeat to John McGrath and his Arizona teammates. The final score was 4-2 in favor of the Javelina. The winning pitcher was McGrath, now 2-0. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 9. Clancy Wood was credited with the save for Arizona, his 1st of the season.
The Miners had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Javelina going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old first baseman Alexander Mullins came to the plate. Mullins hit a 2-run double on a 1-0 knuckle curve from Marquette hurler Ben Gallagher. It was Mullins's 2nd double of the year.
Marquette manager Jeremy Dennis said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
With the loss, Marquette falls to 1-6.
