Dogfish Head Snatch Late Win
|
Hartford wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Roger Raper, falling to the Milton Dogfish Head, 3-1. Raper threw 8.1 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Milton reliever Willard Wilhelm picked up the win, upping his record to 6-2. Roger Raper shouldered the loss. Milton's record now stands at 67-34, placing them second in the Silver AAA.
Milton used the timely hitting of Ivano Pohvisnev to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dogfish Head on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Afterward, Dogfish Head manager Gonzalo Velásquez was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
