Squirrel Monkeys Snag 5-2 Win
|
Led by Shan Gui, the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys defeated the Pennsauken Flyers, 5-2. Gui was 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 3 runs for the Squirrel Monkeys. Steve Gourin was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Bryce Poindexter sewed up the save, his 21st.
Syracuse used the timely hitting of Jaime Montés to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Squirrel Monkeys on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We've got a great group of guys," Montés said, "and we're having fun right now."
At 54-29, Syracuse is in second place in the Silver AAA.
