The Baton Rouge Brass got a superb performance from pitcher Chuck Spadina. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Syracuse. The Starks won the game, 3-2. Spadina threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Isaac Patterson was credited with the save, his 15th in 18 tries. Syracuse now sits in 9th place in the Premier AAA at 39-56.

Syracuse used the timely hitting of Luis Ávila to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Starks on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I like winning," Ávila told the Syracuse Daily News. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."
