Baton Rouge pitcher Herb Willis did his part in helping his team beat the Syracuse Starks, 9-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Paul Rhodes, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save. The Brass saw their win-loss record go to 29-25. At the same time, the Starks fell to 23-31.

Yoshihito Kimura had a big 2-run home run for the Brass in the bottom of the second inning. With Baton Rouge leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from Zuo-lin Liang and swatted a home run to left. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Brass ahead, 3-0.

"The vibe's good," said Baton Rouge manager Daniel Edwards. "We've got to keep it going."
