The Monongahela Monsters eked out a 2-1 win versus the Bakersfield Nobles at Timber Hawks Ballpark. Nobody did more than pitcher Martin Elzey. He was terrific. Monongahela reliever Ed Jenkins picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Ronald McDonald shouldered the loss. The win makes Monongahela 19-16.

Monongahela won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and Ronald McDonald on the mound for Bakersfield, pinch hitter Freddie Cupp hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Monsters fans to their feet.

Afterward, Monsters manager Sancho Tornero was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
