Dirty Reds Drop Mockingbirds, 5-4
|
The San Mateo Dirty Reds overcame a good performance by Mississippi left fielder Benno Luby to knock off Mississippi, 5-4, at Magnolia Park. Luby was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hahn Hartwig, the winner, goes to 1-2. He allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 7 innings. Cisco García recorded the save for San Mateo, his 6th of the season.
San Mateo used the clutch hitting of Calvin Chappell to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Dirty Reds ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Chappell told reporters after the game.
San Mateo goes to 9-17, Mississippi to 13-13.
