Lakers Lose Late, 4-3
|
The Las Vegas Flamingos took Echo Park pitcher Mario Gonzáles's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Strip. The final score had Las Vegas getting past the Lakers, 4-3. Gonzáles went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 4. Las Vegas reliever Jasper Smulders picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Eddie Walden was tagged with the loss. Don Williams collected his 20th save.
Had Buddy Gordon not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Gordon hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Flamingos.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Gordon told the Las Vegas Chronicle. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
The Flamingos raised their record to 42-60.
