van den Burgt Ups Hit Streak to 25 Consecutive Games
Thursday, August 17th , 2051
Surprise's 20-year-old right fielder Kjeld van den Burgt is on a fine run at the plate. His consecutive-game hitting streak has reached 25 games, doing so today by going 2-for-4 against the Greenport Harbor Whales.
The streak has brought a degree of attention that van den Burgt has often tried to deflect, talking about teammates' accomplishments rather than his own. After the Shockers wrapped up their 10-6 triumph over Greenport at Ballpark of Robbins today, he downplayed his part in the victory.
"I got 2 hits," he said. "My contributions were no more important than those from everyone else who played today." Kjeld van den Burgt doubled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, walked in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
In the current season, van den Burgt has put up a .294 batting average with 94 hits, 5 home runs, 25 runs batted in and scored 55 runs.
