Huntington Beats Eugene 12-1, Avery Ks 15
Monday, July 3rd , 2051
Everything was working for Brody Avery today at The Shell. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The changeup was working.
In an unforgettable performance, the 22-year-old Avery fanned 15 Vandals and sparked the Huntington Hermit Crabs to a 12-1 victory over Eugene. He left Vandals hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.
"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Huntington manager Mike Evans. "His location and command were really something."
In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 9 innings, Avery allowed 6 hits and no walks in a superlative outing.
"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Avery said with a smile.
This season Avery has logged no saves. He has thrown 55 innings, dished out 72 strikeouts and walked 5 while putting up a 2-5 mark and a 4.75 ERA.
