Fernández on Fire: Burns Eugene with 3 HR Thursday, June 22nd , 2051 Lake Erie Arryns shortstop Nelson Fernández sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the Eugene Vandals, Fernández told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Fernández pushed the Arryns past the Vandals, 11-1. To go along with the homers, he collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Fernández told reporters after the game. Nelson Fernández flied out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Martín Ávila in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Gustave Cattarinussi in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Gonzalo Roldán in the 6th and flied out in the 8th. Fernández has a .186 average and a .284 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 30 hits, 11 home runs and driven in 28 runs. |
