Rainbow Mermaids Slip Past Panama City, 5-4

Both teams had their chances, but the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids eventually prevailed.
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids faced a tough opponent in Panama City pitcher Luke Corner, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Atlantica by a final score of 5-4. Corner went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. The winner was Northern Virginia reliever Chuck Spadina, now 2-9. The loser was Terry Lesage.
Xiao-gang Qing drove in one run for Northern Virginia. The 30-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Terry Lesage. It was his 6th RBI of the season.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Panama City manager Brian Talamante.
Northern Virginia has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
