Elite Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
Kelly St. John never let the Elite get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Pandas to a win, 3-1. Horace Cope, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on no hits. The win for the Pandas raised their record to 65-44.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Ron Pollard came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Detroit pitcher Gypsyamber D'Souza, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montana on top, 2-1.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Pollard.
