The 19-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Fort Knox Centennial worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Brent Aspden seemed like a risky move for the Centennial, but it was one of the few things that went right at Ballpark of Baxter today. Aspden tossed 7 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Fort Knox dropped a 1-0 decision. With the win, Hudsonville took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 PL R Championchip.
Juan Salazar, the 19-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Salazar contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Hudsonville up, 1-0.
"The old adage is true," said Salazar. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Baxter in Ft. Knox.
